On Thursday, May 30th the 2019 Twomey, Latham, Shea, Kelley, Dubin and Quartararo LLP Community Service Scholarship recipients were announced at the East Hampton High School (EHHS) Awards Ceremony. The year’s winners are Naomi Blowe and Allen Gregg, III.
Naomi has participated in a wide variety of events supporting many different causes. Along with her Girl Scout troop, Naomi organized a “cardboard campout” to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk and to increase awareness of homelessness within the local community. Family and friends sponsored the event as they spent the night on the side lawn of East Hampton High School with just cardboard boxes to shelter them. The campout was a huge success and a very enlightening experience for the students. Naomi’s troop raised the funds needed to earn a “build day”, offsetting costs associated with the building of a new home for low income families made possible by Habitat for Humanity. Naomi will be attending High Point University in North Carolina this fall.
Allen has over 500 hours of community service. He is a member of East Hampton High School’s Century Club and has volunteered his time at fall fairs, family fun days, tree sales for the Kiwanis Club, and his Baptist church. In addition to his dedication to service, Allen is a student representative for the Key Club, member of EHHS’s men’s choir, Manly Men, as well as the school choir and is treasurer of the Robotics Club. One of Allen’s greatest accomplishments in high school is to be nearing the end of his journey to become an Eagle Scout. Allen has been a part of the Boy Scouts since he was five years old. This fall Allen will be attending SUNY Geneseo.
Naomi and Allen were each awarded $1,000 to help with college expenses.
