Job description (Estate Litigation Attorney)

Twomey, Latham, Shea, Kelley, Dubin & Quartararo, LLP is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to work in the law firm’s Riverhead office. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in Surrogate’s Court/Estate and Trust Litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Contesting and Defending Wills Validity. Interpret wills and trusts
  • Resolve Trust Disputes over terms or management of a Trust.
  • Address Executor or Trustee Misconduct.
  • Resolve Beneficiary Conflicts between heirs and beneficiaries, either through negotiation or court action.
  • Represent Clients in Surrogate’s Court. Prepare legal filings, present evidence and argue cases before a judge to ensure client’s position is heard and respected. 
  • Drafting pleadings, discovery demands and responses, and complex motion papers.
  • Strong deposition experience is required.

 

Qualifications

  • JD degree from law school and in good standing with NYS Bar Association.
  • 3-5 years’ law firm Surrogate’s Court/Estate and Trust Litigation experience required.
  • The candidate should be able to independently manage own caseload through all phases of litigation.
  • Trial experience is preferred.
  • Excellent critical thinking, writing, organization and research (Lexis) skills.
  • Exceptional judgment and the proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively.

Job description (Land Use and Zoning/Real Estate Attorney)

Twomey, Latham, Shea, Kelley, Dubin & Quartararo, LLP is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to work in the law firm’s Riverhead office. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience in zoning and land use and/or real estate transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting and handling land use permit applications before the Planning Board, Zoning Board, SCDHS, NYSDEC, and for local wetlands permitting in multiple municipalities. Experience in the Towns and Villages of the North and South Forks is a plus.
  • Conducting municipal research and property due diligence.
  • Attending land use board work sessions and public hearings.
  • Drafting and reviewing documents and agreements, including declarations of covenants and restrictions and easements.
  • Conducting legal research and drafting Article 78 litigation papers.
  • Representing sellers and purchasers in residential and commercial real estate transactions.
  • Handling commercial real estate leasing transactions.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be currently admitted and in good standing with New York State Bar.
  • Must possess superior organizational and time-management skills to meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong, concise communication and writing skills.
  • Highest ethical standards and professional integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to partner with Law Firm Partners and employees of all levels.

 

Salary

$125,000-$150,000 per year

Responsibilities

  • The candidate should be able to independently manage own caseload through all phases of pre-trial litigation.
  • Experience in construction litigation and state and federal courts preferred.
  • Drafting pleadings, discovery demands and responses, and motion papers. 
  • Strong deposition experience is required. Trial experience is preferred. 

 

Qualifications

  • JD degree from law school and in good standing with NYS Bar Association. 
  • 3-5 years’ law firm litigation experience required.
  • Excellent critical thinking, writing, organization and research (Westlaw) skills.
  • Exceptional judgment and the proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
