Melissa Sidor is a partner practicing in the areas of residential and commercial real estate transactions, estate planning, estate administration, business transactions and tax-exempt organizations.
Ms. Sidor represents clients in a wide range of commercial and residential real estate transactions including sales, purchases, leases, 1031 exchanges and sales of development rights to government entities. Further, Ms. Sidor assists businesses negotiate and structure simple and complex transactions including those involving the purchase or sale of existing businesses; the preparation and negotiation of partnership and other joint venture agreements; employment and independent contractor agreements; and many other commercial and business contracts. Ms. Sidor also assists not-for profit entities organize, apply for tax-exempt status and manage ongoing legal compliance, as well as with the preparation, review and negotiation of commercial contracts, such as those with employees and outside business providers.
In addition, Ms. Sidor assists families, including high-net-worth clients, plan for their future by utilizing a variety of estate planning techniques. Her clients benefit from her nearly two decades of experience, by formulating and implementing the best plan for each client’s particular circumstances. Such plans include Wills; Revocable Living Trusts for the purpose of avoiding probate, planning for potential disability and facilitating privacy; Irrevocable Living Trusts for the purpose of minimizing estate taxes, such as with Family Trusts and Qualified Personal Residence Trusts; Irrevocable Trusts for the purpose of protecting assets in the event of long term care; life insurance planning with Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts; business succession planning, including the use of Limited Liability Companies and sales to Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts; Powers of Attorney; Health Care Proxies; Living Wills; and Prenuptial Agreements. Ms. Sidor also assists clients with the administration of loved one’s estates and helps clients navigate estate litigation, when disputes arise.
Ms. Sidor’s approach to practicing law is based upon building relationships with her clients and she believes in a client-centered approach to practicing law.
Ms. Sidor was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1998. She received her Juris Doctor Degree from Hofstra University in 1997, where she was the Managing Editor of Articles of the Hofstra Labor & Employment Law Journal and President of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. Ms. Sidor earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1994, where she was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society.
Ms. Sidor lives in East Quogue with her two sons. She volunteers extensively in her community, giving her time in support of her children’s schools, political campaigns, and local athletic leagues.
